19 February 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 19th [February 1902]. Modelled—began bas relief Virgin & Child in clay. A most splendid day like spring—a joy to see. One regrets Emilia should not still be here & the Bishop of Peterboro. I went out in gondola– Mme Bompard came to tea—also Ct & Css Valentine Robilant. At 8.30 I went to the Sailor’s Institute to the men’s concert wh was unusually good. One man played the clarinet—another the mandolin. There was a young Venetian lady studying for the stage with a loud voice alarmingly out of tune who was very kind in singing & was much appreciated. I accompanied her on the piano. Home at 10.30.
