23 March 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 23rd [March 1902]. Fetched Iduna & took her to morng service & then to the Piazza & walked her to her house. I went back to enquire after Mrs Eden. Their land entrance is under a dotto portico. After waiting for the door to be opened I heard a voice from above saying “Qui z’e!” & then realized it was the Eden servant speaking to me from an upper window. He could neither see me nor I him so we held a conversation in that original very Venetian manner– He however recognised my voice & told me that La padrona was going on well & had seen the Drs who were satisfied—he offered to come down to open the door but I told him it was not necessary & I departed. Mr Byard came to lunch with me—& talked over his future. He has been offered 1000 fcs to sing at Paris in a salon & is thinking of giving up going on the stage for the present. I found it difficult to give him advice. I had a visit from Molmenti the Author of La vita privata de Venezia who talked over the future of the Venezia Murano Co & encouraged the idea. Went out & called on Bss Reinelt. Iduna came to tea with me at 5.
