17 April 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 17th [April 1902]. G. Montagu left for England by 8.45 train. The rest went out soon after breakfast. Sir George O’Brien & his sister Miss O’Brien called in the morning. He is Govr of Fiji—& they are both lovers of pictures. I showed them round the pictures & before they left Mrs G. Maclagan came with 4 friends to see the pictures too—so I had a busy morng showing people about. After lunch my guests went out together in gondola. I walked & arranged to meet them in the Piazza which I eventually did after much search for them & the Princess, Count Seckendorff & I returned home for 5 o’cl tea expecting a visit from Css Secheny who came soon after we got in– She is a charming lively woman & was in ecstasies over my house pictures &c & in many ways reminded me of my dear friend Countess Pisani. After she was gone & Elaine & Seckendorff has gone out to do an evening sketch I went to see Lady Radnor & sat with her & had a chat. I asked her to take an interest in getting nice windows for our church here—as she is a painter of glass windows herself & has just done a fine window for Salisbury cathedral. She promised me to do so. I got home in time to dress for dinner. In the evening my guests played “bridge”–
