10 May 1902 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 10th [May 1902]. Eda came to luncheon & afterwards we went to call on Baroness Burdett Coutts who received me very affly, I found her much aged, having evidently had a stroke & her speech being thick but her mind seemed as clear as ever. I told her about the funds I was raising for a Venice hospital and she promised me £50 at once & more later on– She said that what with the war & the Coronation she was overdone with appeals—but she said she saw my scheme was a necessity & I must have the money.
