1 July 1902 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 1st July [1902]. My 59th birthday! How quickly the time runs away towards the end! Verona Brooke sent me some lovely roses & a book—& all said kind things to me– Eda & I arranged Henry’s correspondence together in the studio & got through a lot of work in the course of the morning. There was a Review of the Colonial Troops in the early morning wh Eda went out to see. The Queen reviewed them which proves the King is really better, & our minds are getting easier. Blanche lent me her open carriage & I started at 3 for a drive & went to fetch Connie & take her with me– Just as I got to Onslow Gardens a thunderstorm threatened. It was very hot & rain was grateful but we had to hurry to Savile Row & send home the carriage. Connie amused herself arranging my writing table for me & after tea she returned home. I was just starting off to walk to Blanche’s when Blossett (Lady Alderson) drove up so I turned back & received her & then went to Cav. Sqr a little later with Eda & sat a little while with Blanche. I walked on with Onie Oranmore whom I met there to Manchester Sqr & on home—dined at home with Nellie & Eda Alderson.
