4 April 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 4th April [1903]. A busy day unpacking & getting things in readiness for the arrival of Blanche & Edward. Sent out to find Maria the Italian cook I had before I went to London & she came & took possession of the kitchen, the French woman I had engaged & who was to meet me at Bâle not having turned up. Blanche & Bertie Ponsonby arrived at 6.45 from Paris. Duncannon came from London at 11.50 & I did not wait up to see him. The Duncannon party remained on with me for a fortnight when Edward returned to town. He went in to the question of the regeneration of the Venezia Murano Co while here. The Dss of Somerset was at Venice with her friend Mrs                and we saw a great deal of them. I began my Tuesday evening receptions and a good many people came especially English such as Mrs Bethune, Miss Milman. Miss Fielding &c. The weather was rather cold & changeable & it was a very late spring. On 18th Edward left & the next day Count Seckendorff arrived to spend a few days. But I had arranged to take a trip to Bologna with Blanche & her son & daughter so on the                we went off taking Seckendorff with us.
