30 June 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 30th [June 1903]. I expected Mr Sandalgian in the morng. Mr Harston came quite early to tell me it was agreed he should come to see me this morning—that yesterday he had been very agitated during their interview & had nearly fainted. He is in a mortal fright poor man at what wd happen to him if the R.C.s found out that he contemplates leaving them & says that they wd make away with him. In the eveng I had Iduna Belmondo to dine with me & then my usual & last Tuesday evening reception. Iduna brought me a small Venetian china cup as she remembers that tomorrow is my birthday & having told the Swedish consul & Lieut. Frilli they sent me flowers.
