10 July 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 10th [July 1903]. Weather getting settled & warm again. The Pope still alive & even better. I went out in gondola in the afternoon. Began a copy of the Portrait by Bellini of Mahomet II. While at work after tea Clara Montalba came in bringing me a present of some German Compote made by her German cook. I arranged to call for her after dinner for an evening row. This I did. It was a splendid moonlit night with a nice breeze and we enjoyed it. It always does one good to be with Clara she is so good & peaceful & kind.
