Friday. 7th [August 1903]. Verona Brooke came up from Shere to see me—& stayed to lunch. Nela came also for a short time & returned home to the country. Nela & I went out together to look for some old silver shoe buckles for my shoes—& eventually found a pair at Welbys in Long Acre. When she had left I went out with Verona to buy books & then at 4 she went off to catch the train back to Shere. Nellie & I dined at 7.30 & then I went to Euston Station to meet the Duncannons & start by 8.45 train for Ireland. We had a good & comfortable passage & reached Ireland abt 6 on
