6 October 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 6th [October 1903]. I went to the Venezia & Murano to talk about the affairs of the Co and to see if a last effort could be made to save it from falling into the rascally hands of Salvati Jesurum & Co. I had let the matter drift as not being the business of a woman to interfere in—but now feel it borne in upon me that tho’ only a woman I must try. I saw Marzollo & spoke to him & by chance Guggenheim came in & also gave his advice. The upshot of it is that Marzollo is to bring Signor Arbib to talk to me about it next week, he being the man who has energy & money & has already entered into pourparlers in London on the subject. Connie & I then went on to the Modern Exn of pictures in the public gardens which I think worse every time I see it. Some of the pictures are simply disgusting so low are the types chosen by the artists as models– There is a Samson & Delilah by a Spaniard if I remember rightly almost the work of a madman & too disgusting.
