7 October 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 7th [October 1903]. Took Connie out in the morning to have her last look of the Piazza & then I took her to the station & saw her off by the 2 o’cl train for London. Sear the girl cook I had brought here returned also to England with her. The Prefect & Mr Harston were at the station to see her off. I took them both to their houses in my gondola. At last I am alone again for a few days & am able to rest a bit after my labours in entertaining—& I am in need of quiet. I had a quiet evening, played patience after dinner & went early to bed.
