24 October 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 24th [October 1903]. I got a telegram from Nellie to say that the marriage is announced & I breathe more freely. The woman who shows us how to thread beads & make necklaces came & spent the morning with us. Directly after lunch I went in gondola to the Grand Hotel to see the Mundellas. Old Miss M. better after sitting with them a little while returned to fetch Verona & Violet & we went to tea with the Montalbas. Met there Miss Holland & asked her again if I might have the cottage next the hospital & she consented & said I should only pay £5 a year. This is splendid. Met also Mr Raphael of London & his bride & have hopes that being enormously rich he will contribute to the hospital. Returned home & had a visit from Mrs Newman & Miss Berkeley who are leaving Venice soon—also Olga Mocenigo came. The bead woman returned with beads for us to use & we worked hard at chains after dinner in the studio.
