26 October 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 26th [October 1903]. I went off in gondola at 9 to the hospital having bid the Ingeniere Trigomi to meet me there. I went to Miss Holland to ask about the cottage next the hospital that she promised to let me have. She kindly came at once & brought the keys & showed me over the house. It is a part of the original Corner Casino which she had cut off from the other. It contains a kitchen on the ground floor and 6 rooms above. This she kindly lets me have for £5 per an: There are only 2 doors of communication to open and the rooms to arrange. This I settled on with Trigomi & then went home. At my door I found Clara Montalba with Mr & Mrs Raphael whom she had brought to see my pictures. They stayed some time– Mr R. has fine things in his own house in London & is very rich. I went to lunch with Mr & Mrs Byard in their little house in Tolentini. Met Lady Radnor & Mr Squire of the British Museum & Mr Williamson. It was a pleasant little reunion. I had Mr Squire next to me and found that he is an employe of the British Museum & we had plenty to say to each other. At 3 I returned home to fetch Violet & we went together to the Piazza in gondola coming home to tea. Several people came to tea amongst them the Swedish consul, Iduna & the Malagolas.
