29 October 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 29th [October 1903]. Today Violet Vivian left me to return to Engd. The weather began to be stormy & the telegrams this morning told of great storms in England so that I hardly liked to let her go but she had promised to be home by a certain day– Nela & Verona took her to the station as I was engaged to lunch at 1 with Lady Radnor. There I met Mr Harston, Mr Squire & Mrs Webb & her son. She is wife of the Dean of Salisbury. At 3 I went home to fetch Nela & Verona & went to the Piazza to look for some jewelry that Nellie Wyld wants me to get for her as wedding presents from her friends. Nela went off to the Montalbas to try & get some of them to take her to the theatre to see Zago in La Mina. Passing the Academia found Mr & Mrs Harston & brought them home to tea. Later Clare, Ellen & August Montalba came & the 2 latter dined with me & took Nela to the Rossini altho’ by that time the wind had become very high & it was raining hard. The Prefect & Elsie Cassis came to see me & I told the former of the addition to the hospital. He says I am let him know before using it & then he will send an inspector & give me the necessary license. Verona & I had a quiet evening together stringing beads.
