3 November 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 3rd [November 1903]. Mr Harston came to call in the morning about the hospital work wh I hoped is going on well—when in came Sister Clara in a state of mind to say she felt sure that Dr van Someren is treating one of the patients Miss Rowe wrongly. She was so ill yesterday Sister C. had to send for Dr Tommasini. He administered quinine & she got better. Today came Dr v. Som: & was furious & ordered her to be starved—& now she is worse. She wanted my advice. I said “call in Dr T. again & let him prescribe on an emergency & I will come later to see.” I had the woman all day long to help me to finish some bead chains. After lunch went out in gondola to the hospital. Found that Dr T. had prescribed beef tea to Miss Rowe. Met the Harstons there & gave them a lift to their home in our gondola– Went on to the Piazza with Nela & Vera & home by 5. Received in the evening—only the Curtis, Malagola, Mr Bliss & a Miss Bowles came.
