2 November 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 2nd [November 1903]. Mr Brown came at 10 to talk over hospital affairs & I agreed to meet him at the hospital at 3. Mme Malagola came to talk over “Lavoro feminite” matters wh do not seem to be making much progress. I showed her some bead chains I was ready to send to Rome to the Exn there. Directly after lunch I went to the hospital. Had a long talk with Mr Brown & Sister Clare. Went over to the Edens garden & found Carrie there alone & walked with her & she gave me roses & chrysanthemums. Went to call on Lady Pirbright at the Grand Hotel. Found her at home—& stayed some time with her. She had a young secy with her named McGinn whom she treated half like a servant– She told me she was going to build a hospital in memory of Lord Pirbright—& had been to Marienbad as the King had wished to see her about it. I told her about my hospital & she promised help. I came home late for tea & missed Mme Bompard who had appointed to come– Too stupid of me. Miss Hastings came to call & brought me money for the Hospital. It was a lovely day—a great contrast to the last days. After dinner the girls went out for a row in open gondola together.
