9 April 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 9th [April 1904]. I went to the garden & there saw Mr Eden & [illegible word] with him that I should buy the hospital but persuaded him that Miss Holland has no right to make onerous conditions having once given us a legal promise of sale of the property. He at first took the view that we ought to humour her desire to buy back the property at some future time for its present value. I told that while using money given to a public charity, the committee & trustees are bound to think first of the advantage of the hospital. This I got him at length to agree in. I hurried then home. The Princess had gone out on her own account in the morning to lunch with Princess Stefanie & Count Lonyay who are staying at the Grand Hotel. I took out Mrs B. Muller after lunch in gondola. Eda went to the choir practise– We all returned to tea & Countess Brandolin & her girl & Mr Prinsep came to be introduced to the Princess Charlotte.
