16 April 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 16th [April 1904]. Mme Malagola, Mrs Burdon Muller, young Malagola & I accompanied the Princess Charlotte to Bologna leaving by 9.40 A.M. train we arrived abt 12. We went to the Hotel Brun. We were met at the station by Prince of Meiningen & Prof. Malagola who had made a charming tour to Ravenna, Rimini, Ferrara, & S. Marino & the Prince was in excellent spirits. As soon as we got to the Hotel we had lunch & then set off for the antiquity shops & spent all the afternoon in them. I bought a grandfather clock with panels of engraved glass for 250 lire– A man also came from Ravenna with old red silk damask which he brought out in the Princess’ sitting room & wh was bought by some of the company. After dinner the Malagolas fetched me & took me to pay a visit to Countess Zucchini. She lives in an apartment of one of the fine old Bolognese palaces & had made it comfortable & artistique. She showed me her bedroom which was hung with red damask & full of pretty things. There were several men young & old calling on the Css who were presented to me but whose names I failed to catch. We left early & I was glad to get to bed being tired. Signor Minghetti (of the pottery) had accompanied us this afternoon in our expedition to the shops.
