18 May 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 18th [May 1904]. Signor Arbib came to see me in the morning and brought Signor Cadorni the sculptor who wanted to see my pictures so I showed him round. Mrs Silver lunched out with her friend the Pss– Directly after lunch I accompanied Eda to the station to see her off by the 2 P.M. train & there she met Mme Wiel’s sisters. I was very sorry to part with her she is such a charming companion—so straight—good tempered & capable. I went back home & took out the Poynters to the Eden’s garden & while Sir Edward was going round Mrs Poynter & I went to the Hospital wh she was interested to see. After dinner we all went (except Mrs Silver) to the Concert of the Sailor’s Institute where there was a large attendance—& much “talent.” An engineer we knew took the chair & recited “Excelsior”—another recited “Mother Hubbard” & “When father carves the duck.” A Dane played beautifully on the mouth organ and the auto harp. Sir Edward was vastly amused.
