29 June 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 29th [June 1904]. Signor Marzollo came to talk over the V & Murano affairs. He did all he could to rein down Arbib. If the English Company would put the whole thing into the hands of him (Marzollo) all would go well—Arbib would soon bring it to naught. I said nothing & promised to write to Duncannon. It seems to me the Marzollo is not running straight. These Venetians always fight amongst themselves. The Duchess was not very well & sat with me instead of going out. Mrs Eden & her niece Miss Cox paid me a visit in the morning. At 3 I went out in gondola to pay a visit to Css Teresa Agostini della Seta née Marcello whom I had known since her childhood. She married & went to Pisa & has had many troubles losing her husband by a carriage accident & a son very suddenly. She is still very pretty & attractive. I went on to the Victoria Hotel to see Bss Reinelt & then returned home to fetch the Duchess of Abercorn and took her to tea at the Curtis. Met there Lord & Lady Falkland & 2 daughters. Lady F. is an American—very quiet & gentle. Lord F. in the army not very interesting. The girl, rather good looking. On leaving the Curtis took the Dss for a long row by the Mautrine port—till dinner time—& went out for a float again in the evening.
