10 July 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 10th July [1904]. I went to morning service & then sat quiet the rest of the day really resting– It was very hot. Marchese Bentivoglio called on me– He has grown very dull & wearisome but is friendly & kindly. It is curious to think of such a dull creature in the place which was once filled by such a bright charming intelligent person as dear Countess Pisani at Vescovana—& yet she chose to make him her heir—so I ought to think it right. At 4 I went with Baker to the service at the Sailor’s Inst: Went in gondola but walked back with Mr Harston who dined with me & I took him for a float in gondola before I deposited him at home & then home to bed—very hot & oppressive night.
