12 July 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 12th July [1904]. A tremendously hot day. Sat in the dressing room to my bed room wh I had arranged as a sitting room because the afternoon & midday sun did not beat on it. Wrote, typed & worked. Went out at 5 to the hospital in gondola & then to the Piazza from whence I walked home. Cav. Luigi Cavenaghi called abt 7 on his way from the station. He has come here on purpose to see some of my pictures which require his care—the fine Cima, the L. Lotto & the D. Gherard being all dry & requiring laying down. Sir E. Poynter advised me to send for Cavenaghi & he has kindly come. In the evening had quite an American party. Only Malagola to represent Italy. Mr & Mrs Iddings came also Mr Bliss the U.S. Consul & he brought Mr & Miss Foulkes. Mr F. is an art student & a very pleasant man—very like an Englishman. Mr Thayer U.S. vice consul also came.
