13 July 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 13th [July 1904]. Cav. Cavenaghi came before 10 o’cl & we had the pictures taken down from the walls that he was to inspect viz the fine Cima, the L. Lotto & the D. Gherard. He decided to have them packed to take them away with him this afternoon when he returns to Milan. We sent for Della Torre to make the box & to pack them for him. He examined all the rest of the pictures and told me to have glasses put over many of them for their preservation. He went away at 12 & returned again at 4 to put them in the box & carried them off. Genl de Horsey came at 4 to propose to take me a walk in the Eden’s garden. Then Css Brandolin & her girl called & after they had left I went out with the Genl. We sat talking for some time in the arbour over the Lagune towards S. Clemente enjoying the cool evening. He brought me home at 7.30. After dinner I went to see Mr Harston to give him a message. He came to speak to me in the boat—said he is not well– Went on to the Curtis & paid them a visit & had a chat. Home to bed at 11. The temperature is much more pleasant, there having been a good shower of rain this morning.
