29 July 1904 — Belluno | |
Friday. 29th [July 1904]. Read Dante—& Hazlett’s History of Venice. At 3.30 set out in a carrozzella & drove to Salce to have tea with the Edens. Sat out in their garden a bit & then walked back to Belluno by 7 o’cl dinner. Took a walk in the town after dinner. Played patience till bed time. Horrible news from Russia another Home Minister de Plehve murdered by the socialists by a bomb thrown at him at St Petersburgh. The coachman of his carriage killed & many others wounded. The assassin not caught. Too awful. The Russians again beaten in Manchuria! | |
