25 August 1904 — Maraga
Thursday. 25th [August 1904]. The weather was still so bad & the reports from the Cadore so discouraging that I decided to give up the attempt to go to the Cadore—so I telegraphed to Venice to say I was coming & then started off home by 11.20 train getting there at 2.15. Pasquale met me at the station. It rained all the day & I found a bora blowing– I hear of 5cs of snow up at Misurina & snow at Borea. I wrote to explain to the Alderson party that I was not going to meet them. After shaking down at home I walked out & called at Genl de Horsey where I found the Curtis & the Bishop of Ely & Lady Alwyne Compton drinking tea. I came in upon the party as a surprise—after a talk with them I walked home.
