2 October 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 2nd [October 1904]. Mr Harston returned to Venice yesterday & took the service in the church– I was prepared to play the organ in the service but happily Miss Rowe took it as our organist was away. Walked home with Mrs Curtis part of the way. At 3 Signor & Sra Malagola came & went out with us in gondola– We went to see the Donna della Rose (Martinengo) palace near Rialto where there is some good furniture & splendid tapestries. All is kept like a museum & shown to the public. There is some fine china & some splendid Hispanic Moresque plates—tho’ I have lived here nearly 30 years I have not seen this collection before– From there we went to the Giovanelli palace & saw the fine Giorgione & terrible furniture of the early Victorian gothic of the fifties. Took a row past S. Michele & home by abt 6. Very hot day.
