14 October 1905 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Saturday. 14th [October 1905]. Mr & Mrs Curtis looked in to see me in the morning so I invited them to luncheon here to meet Lord & Lady Barrymore & Mr & Mrs Hulton at one o’cl & they all came. Lady B. is a friend of my sister Blanche’s a pretty woman with bright black eyes & very pleasant. To my astonisht she said they have “brought no evening clothes” & so could not come to dinner. I thought that sort of thing amongst most compatriots was exploded! At 3 went out in gondola with Bee. Went to see the old General– Home to 5 o’cl tea– Dined quietly alone & early to bed. Ola & Miss Rome came to tea & also a Miss Simpson (sister of Sir James) & a Mrs Rawnsley & her sister. | |
