16 October 1905 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 16th [October 1905]. Mr Powell came in the morning with his wife & daughters & brought a Mr A. White & his daughter. Mr White has a fine house in London (Queens Gate) & enjoyed seeing the pictures. He knew about Cortelazzo’s work & was very appreciative of the nice things Henry had collected– Cav. Arbib & his 2 daughters came also & I introduced him to Mr Powell (a glass maker in England) & they fraternized. After lunch Lord Barrymore called to say his wife is laid up with a bad cold & he accompanied Bee & me to Mrs Wood’s studio where we met Pss Polignac, Countess Robert FitzJames & Herr Van Hahnen & Mr Henry Monod. The latter promised to call on me– We went on to the Hospital where we arranged with Ola to go to see after Lady Barrymore—& then to the Eden’s garden to introduce Lord B. to them. Came home to tea & had several callers amongst whom were Mr & Mrs Albert Gray. She is American nice looking & without twang. Malagola called for Bee & took her to the Piazza after dinner for her last walk.
