17 October 1905 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. [17th October 1905]. Mr Harston called to talk over the Hosp: affairs. The opposition Ins of Dr van Someren keeps ours empty & is trying. I took Bee to the station & she left by 2.10 train via Paris for London—under the escort of Lady Helen Vincent. Bee will be at home tomorrow night at 10.45. Malagola came to see her off. Afterwards I called on Mlle Aspasie Kwekwitsch & then went to the Piazza & thence to the Eden’s garden. Only Mr Eden was there. Ola & Sister Rome joined us & I brought them over to town in my gondola. Home to tea. Carry Eden came in & also Ola Mocenigo. Mr Somers Cocks & Prof. Trombini dined with me & played in the evening. Mr Cocks ’cello playing is wonderful for an amateur & delighted all who heard him. Princesse de Polignac came & brought Css Robert de FitzJames with her. Mr Monod also came—a most agreeable & interesting man. We had much talk over our Layard pedigree he being a French Protestant. He married an American & his mother was English. He speaks English very well.
