4 November 1905 — En route to India | |
Saturday. 4th [November 1905]. Today we had an excitement in the form of a slight fire owing to the fusing of an electric wire near the door of the stairs on the spar deck. The danger was over almost before one had become aware of it. I was resting in my cabin close by when we heard voices and a splash of water & looking out saw water along our passage—but there was no confusion or fuss. It happened a few minutes before the bugle sounded for lunch—so that the call to meals came opportunely to calm all nerves. | |
