15 November 1905 — Agra | |
Wednesday. 15th [November 1905]. We took a carriage & drove to Agra Fort wh we visited & then went to the Agra bank for me to draw some money. The Bank is in a large house in a nice garden. Just within the doorway sat crosslegged a fat turbaned man with a large bag of rupees wh he was passing through his hands sorting, weighing & make piles of them. The clerks who gave us the money were seated crosslegged on a kind of dais. The manager spoke English & seemed to be an European. After lunch Corise packed & prepared to start off for Lucknow to join her brother Henry who is quartered there. She went to the station abt 3—under the care of her bearer. Nela & I left by a later train with Baker & our bearer Ali for Lahore. We took Baker in the 1st class with us & thereby secured a carriage to ourselves. | |
