26 January 1906 — Calcutta
Friday. 26th [January 1906]. After lunch I went with Mrs Harington to a garden party given by a friend of hers at the Club where there was a string band playing—a Maypole had been erected & a lot of young ladies dressed in white with coloured bows in their hair did a long dance round it. Nela & I dined with Mr & Mrs Carlyle friends of Lady Younghusband who had introduced us. Had a pleasant evening & heard a Mrs Denison Ross play beautifully on the piano. It appeared that they were married a couple of years ago at Venice & I had lent them my gondola to go to church in at the request of Lady Alwyne Compton.
