25 March 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 25th March [1906]. I went to morning service at 10.30 & heard our new chaplain Canon Lonsdale Ragg for the first time. He reads very well– He gave a short address from the steps of the communion table—an innovation I dont understand & he had many candles lighted wh I detest– However it is of no use my fashing myself. Mr Hulton called to talk over the Sailor’s Inst. Merrifield has gone & the place has been closed some time waiting for a new man called Fussey—who has been engaged. People are very kind in welcoming me back—visits from Iduna Belmondo, Mr & Mrs Merrick, & Canon Ragg, Cav. Arbib &c.
