9 April 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 9th [April 1906]. Today has been an extra busy day. After breakfasting at 7 a.m. with my 2 little green parrots by my side I dressed to go to work to answer my letters & then got out my typewriter & put it in order for use. Had a long visit from Sr Guggenheim whom I had not seen since my return. Messages on the telephone from Sr Arbib—& Mme Pezzè who asked me to let her come to see me at 2 p.m. I set to work at the typer to continue to copy Henry’s letters to Sir Wm Gregory wh I took up in 1888. After lunch came Mme Pezzè very full of the success of the boats for transporting the sick wh she had made the Blue Cross Society institute. At three came Mr Arbuthnot with a lovely niece & stayed a long time chatting. At 4 Maria Cozzi called with a Herr her cousin who went into ecstacies over this house, pictures &c & then Sister Barradaile called me on the telephone & begged me to go to the hospital– As soon as I had had my cup of tea at 5 I went there in gondola– Found plenty of work & made notes of furniture to be bought for use. Telephoned to Dr v. Someren to ask him to employ the Blue Cross boat to bring over his patient of this morning wh he promised to do—then hurried home—dressed & went to dine with the Edens—coming home at 10–
