22 April 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 22nd [April 1906]. Accompanied the Bishop & Mrs Collins to morning service. Very full church. Bishop preached. He & I went to the confirmation service at 5.30. The 2 Miss Hultons, Miss Appleton & Mr Fussey, the new manager of the Sailor’s Inst. were confirmed– The Bishop made a beautiful address. I was startled when he appeared in church in a cape & mitre! nor is this in accordance with my protestant ideas. The service lasted 1 hour. At 7.30 I accompanied the Bishop to the Sailor’s Inst. where a service was held & he made a fine address. We got home after 9 o’clock bringing Canon Ragg to sup with us– We were all tired & went to bed directly after supper. Sister Chitty arrived.
