6 May 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 6th [May 1906]. Went to morning service with the Capt. & all the boys. The Capt. read the lessons. Prince Alexander came to lunch with us & bid me good bye as the “Drake” sails tomorrow. We had arranged with Sr Malagola to meet him in the afternoon to see the foundations of the Campanile. As it threatened to rain I did not go—the others went & never met Malagola so saw nothing. Malagola called to enquire what had happened & found that they had looked for each other in vain. After dinner my guests left me having to go on board the “Drake” to sail tomorrow morning. They had all been very happy & I was sorry to lose them. Their names were Philip Neville, Edward Denison, Stephen [illegible word], J. Pipon, Campbell Tait, H. Stokes, C. Bowley, Eric Fellowes, Errol Manners, Edward Priestly & Lionel Ottley. The house was very still after their departure. They are nice English gentlemanly boys & their Captain treats them like a friend & father.
