1 July 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 1st July [1906]. I am 63 today. Well on the downhill now. I went to morning service & thence to H. Victoria to see Angela Reinelt. On my return I found Malagola waiting for me to hear how the Czernin child fared– I made him stay to lunch with me which was pleasant for me. After tea I was just starting off to Danieli’s to enquire after the Czernin child when I met her & made her get into my gondola & took her to the hotel & left her. Returned & dined at 7 afterwards going to the service at the Sailor’s Inst: & played the hymns. Canon Ragg did not turn up so Fussey read the Service after consulting me as to whether he should wear the surplice! which I discouraged. He however read the absolution!
