8 July 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 8th [July 1906]. To church at 10.30. Malagola looked in after lunch sorry for himself having his head bound up on acct of a small sore on his forehead. To cheer him up I proposed taking him out with me in gondola & we went over to the Giudecca that he might pay his cousin a visit at the Hospital while I paid one to the Edens. We returned about 6 & I then paid Aspasie Kwekwitsch a visit. Here she lives all alone thinking of her past glories as sister in law of the Prince of Montenegro, enjoying bad health & being generally soured & so not beloved. Besides all this she is poor & proud. I dined at 7 & then walked with Baker to the Sailor’s Institute. A storm had begun & no sailors came so the Canon & I walked home at 8.30.
