9 July 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 9th July [1906]. Mr Montalba came & being in better health he said his mind was clear & so we were able to finish making up the Hospital Balance sheet wh has given us both such trouble & which ought to have been done in April. It is a great relief to us both & I suggested that we should meet in celebration of the event at the Calcina tonight & drink our coffee & have a little converse. I sent the gondola in the morning to bring over Teresa (of the Malagolas) to spend the day with her French nuns. At 3 she came to me & at 4 I took her back to the Hospital & left her there. I went on to the Eden’s garden & discussed with Mr Eden the plans for building at the Hospital. After dinner I went out in gondola & landed at the Calcina at 9– Mr Montalba & Hilda & Ellen M., Mr Woods, Genl de Horsey joined & we found there also the two Miss Phillpotts– Sat & talked & got away & home by 11–
