24 October 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 24th October [1906]. I took a morning train arriving at Rome abt 11– There has been so much confusion of late on the Italian railways that trains have been constantly 2 or 3 hours late—to my surprise I got there 10 minutes before the times fixed. The Embassy carriage met me after I had waited a few minutes & I was glad to find myself in a comfortable house & was lodged in the Royal apartment wh is however not royal to look at—had tea & a chat with Lady Egerton & went to bed.
