8 November 1906 — Milan
Thursday. 8th [November 1906]. at 10 o’cl. Angela Reinelt had sent a carriage to meet me & had ordered rooms for me at Hotel de la Ville where she was staying & she received me with much enthusiasm. We lunched at 12 & afterwards Countess Gola (née                of Venice) came & accompanied us to the Exhibition wh is still open till Sunday. We had not much time to see anything but we went thro’ the Japanese, Persia & Indian department where all the things I saw seemed to me to be of inferior sort & the place was like a bazaar. The pavillions of the Exhibition are all very distant one from the other & the show is divided into 2 parts in different parts of the town connected by an elevated railway in wh we went from one part to the other. The days being short it soon got dark & we had to leave at 4.30 when the Show is closed. We went to Cova’s & got excellent & refreshing tea & then returned to the hotel. Dined at 7.30 & Angela & I went to the Margonia theatre where we saw a rather dull piece played called “Amor seuzo shima.”
