20 November 1906 — Paris
Tuesday. 20th [November 1906]. at 6.20 at Paris– Went straight to the Hotel St Romain where I found my rooms ready– The dear old master M. Antoine Bélard has died since I was here. It was sad not to see the good old man who welcomed us when we came here on our first journey to Paris. Henry had often been here before & had even helped Antoine with advice & recommendations to start the hotel. His fat son (who takes after his fat mother) & his fat wife continue the house which is as comfortable as ever. I had a couple of hour’s rest & then walked off to Mlle Michaud’s the dressmaker—also a house I had been to for at least 30 years. Lunched at 12.30. After which Sophy Franqueville came to see me—looking bonny & happy. She took me out driving & then returned here to tea with me. At 5 her husband fetched her. I dined alone—wrote letters to Stupinigi to the Queen & Marchesa Villamarina & went early to bed. I sent this morning a telegram to the Queen of congratulations on her birthday.
