26 November 1906 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 26th [November 1906]. Today I dined with Mr & Mrs Colefax who had lately been at Venice. There I met besides others I did not know, Mr & Mrs Humphry Ward. She unbent to me & kindly invited me to lunch with her one day, but we came to no appointment as Friday the 30th I went down to the Tile House to stay Sunday with Charlie & Nellie & to see the baby Katharine who is my godchild & who was born last year while I was in India. She is like an Alderson & not pretty—but fair– Sir John Craggs was down with Charlie shooting. He is a rich self made man & one of the Directors of Fortnum & Mason Co. of wh Charlie is now the Manager so that he is earning some £400 a year wh added to what Nellie makes in her Clemence & Savile dressmaking establishment makes the Wyld’s well off.
