8 December 1906 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 8th [December 1906]. Today Mr Hamilton Aidé lunched with me– I thought him looking much aged. He was on his way to stay a “week end” visit in the country. He was bright & Constance came to lunch also & they discussed the pros & cons of the Times’ quarrel with the Publishers. He said he thinks of publishing a book on his own account & sending out post cards to all his friends to advertise it, a thing that in former years he would have thought very in fra dig, but in these days could quite be done. Lady Lovelace came to dine with me quite alone & we had a pleasant quiet evening talking over her trouble in the sudden loss of her husband– Poor woman– We knew each other a little as girls & had met little since—but trouble has drawn us together again.
