28 December 1906 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Friday. 28th December [1906]. The weather improved & tho’ it was hard & the snow lay thick it was propitious for woodcock shooting so they all went out & the ladies joined them to luncheon at the keeper’s lodge. I walked there with Irène. It was very slippery under foot. She stayed out with her husband & I walked home alone– When they returned from shooting the McCalmonts set off home in their motor. They kindly invited me to go & stay with them wh I gratefully declined.
