27 December 1906 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Thursday. 27th [December 1906]. Snow & such weather as kept everyone in doors all day. In the morning Vere arranged some charades wh kept everyone amused. The word was “Mount Juliet” & Lady McC. took a part very well—as the 1st scene of a wife begging her husband (Bertie) to give her a mount. The 2nd was very prettily done by Myles & Gweneth as Romeo & Juliet. Then Blanche, Edward & Bertie took off the McCalmont family arriving at Mount Juliet & discussing the family here. After this the McCalmonts did “Bessborough” which also caused much fun & laughter—especially when Vere addressed a “borough” speech to the assembled company who kept interrupting him.
