31 December 1906 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Monday. 31st [December 1906]. There was a regular downpour. There was a regular family confab as to where Irène is to be for her confinement & I solved the difficulty by offering her my house in London. After lunch Blanche, Gweneth & Myles & Bertie went off to Mount Juliet in the motor for a dance so our party here is reduced to three, Edward, Arthur DC. & I. We played patience in the evening & went early to bed so there was no “seeing in the new year. The old year has been quite a peaceful one to me– This time last year Nela & I were at Bikaner! what a difference!
