27 August 1907 — Abano | |
Tuesday. 27th [August 1907]. The bathing woman knocked at my door soon after 6 a.m. & conducted me to a bath in the corridor immediately below the floor I slept in. Having divested me of my garments she made me lie on a bed & proceeded to plaister my arms and legs with hot mud– When she had well covered them with the noisesome stuff she wrapped me up in sheets & blankets & there left me to stew for 20 minutes. This done she unfolded my coverings, scraped off the mud & led me down steps into a marble bath where I got rid of the remaining mud & soaked in the medicinal water for 5 mins. This done I got into some garments & went back to bed in my room & had my breakfast. Then came the masseuse to complete the cure after rubbing slapping & banging for ¼ hour I reposed for an hour & then dressed. At 11.30 talked on the telephone with Arbib– Who would have believed such a thing possible 20 years ago? Lunch at 12. Retired to my room & had a cup of tea at 4. Took a walk with Baker before dinner. Dined at 7– Patience & bed. | |
