3 September 1907 — Abano
Tuesday. 3rd [September 1907]. Mrs Silver arrived with a Mr Pollock just as I was finishing lunch. She had come from Ca’ Capello to see me. Unfortunately the storm of yesterday has changed the weather & it poured with rain all day. We sat out under the portico of the caffé & chatted & worked—till she started off at 4 to return to Venice. Yesterday I took a little carriage at 4 & went with Baker for a lovely drive round the Euganean Hills. A very pretty excursion on getting away from Montirone the hot springs seem to cease & the country is very well cultivated. There are masses of grapes ripening– It is very curious to be amongst these volcanic hills wh start out of plains. We passed the fine villa built by Cardinal Pisani & belonging to the Sec of Padua– Also many fine villas belonging to Paduan families.
