7 September 1907 — Abano
Saturday. 7th [September 1907]. I took my last & 11th mud bath—& left Abano directly after lunch. I find my new friends name to be Pavan & asked her just at the last moment & they promised to come & see me next week when they come to Venice. I took the “diretto” from Bologna to Venice wh only stopped at Padua & Mestre so that the journey was hardly an hour & I got home by 2. Mrs Silver was out when I got here—but she came in by 5 o’cl tea & after that we went to the Piazza & on by the Hospital where I found Miss Chaffey had just returned from her holiday in England. It was a lovely day & quite hot. We sat in the Belvedere in the evening. The dinner table was decorated with “moonflowers” growing outside this house from the riva boxes. They are lovely to look at & beautiful in scent.
